HAITI: US lifts arms embargo

The US government lifted its arms embargo against Haiti on 10 October to allow police troops to rearm. The embargo was imposed in 1991 to prevent the Haitian army, rebels and street gangs from buying weapons in the US market. At the time all sides were being accused of human rights violations during street clashes.
